Hyponik: Sully, Etch & Otik
Continuing on our residency at Rye Wax, we return to the Peckham venue with three of our favourite ‘steppas and bass wizards Sully, Etch and Otik.
Sully (Keysound/Black Acre)
2-step master and all round ‘bass music’ aficionado Sully is an understated folk hero, a low key elusive bass producer with a fiercely passionate fanbase. Long before – four of five years before – the UK garage revival kicked in and “future” garage had even been dreamt up, Sully began finding a space between 2step’s swing, dubstep’s edge and breakstep’s drums, all underpinned by the rude spirit of jungle. His production efforts have come via Keysound Recordings, Foxy Jangle, Uncertain Hour, Black Acre and Fat City.
Etch (Altered Roads)
With past efforts hosted by the likes of Keysound, Lapsus, Wisdom Teeth and Purple City Soufflé, Etch’s ever-evolving palette draws from UK garage, dubstep, hip hop, jungle and beyond. His latest label project, Altered Roads, sees him focus purely on his own productions, initially stemming from a series of ‘Altered States’ mixes he recorded that focused on alternative influences and obsessions.
Otik (DEXT, 17 Steps, Nous Disques)
Since relocating to London from Bristol producer, Otik has been steadily building his rep as one of the most exciting young producers to emerge in underground bass music. With releases on Durkle Disco, Brotherhood Soundsystem, Boom Ting, Infinite Machine and Dext Recordings, the 24 year old contorts the frameworks of past club movements, and has steadily been building a solid catalogue of hard hitting club tracks that span across the worlds of grime, jungle, dubstep, techno and bass.
